3CX has announced that they will no longer be providing any new updates for the Raspberry Pi and don’t intend to make any additional builds of v18 for Raspberry Pi4. It’s also unlikely that 3CX will make a version for Raspberry Pi once they move to Debian 11.
What Workarounds Can I Use?
If you are a Raspberry Pi user, you may be disappointed that 3CX has announced that there will be no future updates for the Raspberry Pi. But don’t you worry. There are many largely free users running 3CX Phone System V18 on Raspberry Pi4 devices. A couple of years ago, running 3CX on a Raspberry Pi sounded like a good idea. However now, with the advent of economical and more affordable cloud computing and most importantly the 3CX StartUP solution that is free, running a dedicated 3CX instance on the Raspberry Pi no longer makes sense to both – its users as well as 3CX.
Not Applicable To SBC
3CX clarified that this announcement will only concern users running the 3CX v18 on Raspberry Pi. It does not, in any way, refer to users running the SBC on Raspberry Pi.
Migrate To 3CX Startup
With 3CX StartUP, users can now run 3CX free of charge in the cloud, for up to 10 users. 3CX will be hosting, updating, and guarding your system completely free of charge. Bits Secure IT strongly recommends that you migrate your PBX to a 3CX StartUP instance instead.
- From the “Systems” page in the Customer Portal, click on “Add System” in the top right corner.
- Then select the “Hosted by 3CX” > “Up to 10 users – 3CX StartUP” > “Migrate from other provider”.
- This will download a zip folder with the configuration files and a user guide. Please carefully follow the instructions in the user guide to migrate your system.
- Once you have finished migrating your system, please remove or deactivate the original instance from your account.
- Enter the “Systems” page in the Customer Portal. Then in the top right corner, select the “Add System” button.
- Select “Hosted by 3CX” > “Up to 10 users – 3CX StartUP”.
- Enter a system name and select a phone number from one of our many VoIP providers and click on “Save Changes.
- You can now log into your new 3CX system with your credentials.
- Log into your account at https://portal.3cx.com.
- Select “System Settings” under “Phone System Management” from the sidebar on the left side of your screen.
- From this page, copy and paste the SIP address of one of your clients under the Primary SIP Device Address
